Assignment 1: Band naming and logo design
abstract-1.jpg
Our band is called Jazz Discharge. Jazz in itself began in early 20th century America. Jazz has spawned a series of sub-genres such as Big band swing (like us) to Latin Jazz and Smooth Jazz and acid jazz which fuzed hip-hop and funk with jazz. Our band is more of the Big Band swing jazz, some other artists theat you might know in this category are, Count Basie, Cab Calloway, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsey, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman, Fletcher Henderson, Earl Hines, Glenn Miller, and Artie Shaw, to name a few. Bands like us tend to perform in smaller clubs and jazz bars. Our fan-base is mostly the more sophisticated African-Americans, and band geeks.

Assignment 2: Band Bio

Band Name: Jazz Discharge
Music Style: 30's Swing Jazz
Members Of Band and Innstrument played: Kyle/ Tenor Sax, Marlon/ upright bass, Juan/ Trumpet
Brief history: We are a relatively new young group that got together one day after jazz band and decided to form our own group. We play mostly small gigs at local jazz clubs. We call ourselves Jazz Discharge. Our biggest influences are Louis Armstrong and Count Basie. Lately the gigs are becoming more and more frequent and we will be kicking off our first tour soon. Our band is very much eccentric, how many other high-school kids form a 30's jazz band and quickly get recognized as the best in the greater houston area. Our trumpet player Juan can easily blow the roof off of any joint we play at. Kyle is so smooth on the sax that he makes silk look like sandpaper. Lastly, Marlon on bass will have you jumping all night. We have issued out a few demo tapes and are currently recording our first album that is self titled ( Jazz Discharge). Our CD should be in music stores by November 15th of 2009.
